Glucerna Challenge Me-Week 6

After 6 weeks, Glucerna Challenge Me program came back at the same place and time, where all participants were screened again for their weight, blood glucose and were nicely recorded. This time, a few participants could not make it as they had to go somewhere. This day was also the day the State of Terengganu organised International Bridge Run and roads leading the venue were closed, making us difficult to drive direct to our seminar location.

The program started with the health screening, then breakfast. After the light breakfast, the participants were grouped into three under 3 diabetes educators (DE). The DE begun with getting feedback from the participants on food intake, exercise and the glycaemic control. The discussion was very friendly and some participants shared their experience with the groups.

Spending 45 minutes with the DEs, they were later briefed by a dietitian on food intake, the types, the portion plus type of oil, carbohydrates, protein and minerals. This time, the dietitian showed them the real model of the food and invited the participants to choose the food and put them in the plate. From this exercise, the participants seemed knowledgeable on the healthy plate concept.

Later, the sports physioterapist showed how certain exercises are done and demonstrated how to use a sitting ball during exercise.

The health screening today were submitted to the secretariat for record purposes. There is one more session i.e. 1 November 2014, where participants will be screened for HbA1c and  any weight loss. Those who had shown noticeable reduction in HbA1c or weight will be eligible for winning prizes allocated by the organizer.
